Acts 2:1-21
1 When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in
one place.
2 And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a
mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and
resting on each one of them.
4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to
speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5 Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from
every nation under heaven.
6 And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were
bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
7 And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all
these who are speaking Galileans?
8 And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native
language?
9 Par'thians and Medes and E'lamites and residents of
Mesopota'mia, Judea and Cappado'cia, Pontus and Asia,
10 Phryg'ia and Pamphyl'ia, Egypt and the parts of Libya
belonging to Cyre'ne, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,
11 Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our own tongues
the mighty works of God."
12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another,
"What does this mean?"
13 But others mocking said, "They are filled with new
wine."
14 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and
addressed them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be
known to you, and give ear to my words.
15 For these men
are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day;
16 but this is
what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
17 'And in the
last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all
flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men
shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;
18 yea, and on my
menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and
they shall prophesy.
19 And I will show
wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth beneath, blood, and fire,
and vapor of smoke;
20 the sun shall
be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord
comes, the great and manifest day.
21 And it shall be
that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'
Romans 8:14-17
14
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not
receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the
spirit of sonship. When we cry, "Abba! Father!"
16
it is the Spirit himself bearing witness with our spirit that we are children
of God,
17
and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ,
provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
John 14:8-17, 25-27
8
Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be
satisfied."
9
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know
me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, 'Show us
the Father'?
10
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that
I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in
me does his works.
11
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for
the sake of the works themselves.
12
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works
that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.
13
Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in
the Son;
14
if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
15
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
16
And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with
you for ever,
17
even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither
sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in
you.
25
"These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you.
26
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he
will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said
to you.
27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I
give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
